AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on a desire for deep intellectual engagement in theoretical physics, emphasizing the need for a community focused on genuine academic discourse rather than political or social implications. The original poster seeks like-minded individuals who value factual discussions and meaningful connections, aiming to foster a supportive environment for sharing ideas and constructive criticism. However, there is a recognition that professional physicists may not engage in such discussions with those lacking a strong background in science or mathematics, as they typically have established networks for their academic exchanges. The conversation highlights the importance of creating a space for serious discussion while acknowledging the challenges in attracting knowledgeable participants.

I am looking to connect with people about theoretical physics on a deep level. Thats all. I crave this intellectual connection and am not interested in the political or social ramifications of such discussions. I am looking to put the pieces together and seek facts and deeper meaning. If you are interested, please reach out. Lets build a community of likeminded, genuine individuals who can take academic criticism and give genuine praise when due and propel humanity forward in a way that is perhaps muted by todays popular opinion model. Let’s focus on stripping away the nonsense and being a real community of genuine support.

Perhaps, I'm being blunt here, but isn't that what PF is about? We are a highly moderated site. We professionally discuss mainstream science and math. We refrain from discussing fringe topics, personal theories, or even personal speculation, as they often lead nowhere.

Professional or academic physicists would likely be uninterested in your suggestion because they already have a community of other scientists with whom to discuss their work or share new developments in science. They would be uninterested and somewhat impatient in discussing these things with someone not versed in the science or mathematics that they have studied.

I am not that knowledgeable but I am willing to listen!

Similar to the 2024 thread, here I start the 2025 thread. As always it is getting increasingly difficult to predict, so I will make a list based on other article predictions. You can also leave your prediction here. Here are the predictions of 2024 that did not make it: Peter Shor, David Deutsch and all the rest of the quantum computing community (various sources) Pablo Jarrillo Herrero, Allan McDonald and Rafi Bistritzer for magic angle in twisted graphene (various sources) Christoph...
Thread 'My experience as a hostage'
I believe it was the summer of 2001 that I made a trip to Peru for my work. I was a private contractor doing automation engineering and programming for various companies, including Frito Lay. Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
