Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around the appropriateness of sending job applications on weekends, specifically Saturdays and Sundays, as opposed to waiting until Monday. Participants share their perspectives on professionalism and timing in the job application process.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested
  • Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants suggest that sending applications on weekends may not be ideal since most people are not in the office, potentially delaying the reading of the application until Monday.
  • Others argue that the timing of sending an application should not matter as long as it is submitted before the closing date, emphasizing that professionalism is about being reasonable.
  • A participant expresses that one should not be judged based on the time of day or week an email is sent, suggesting that such judgments reflect poorly on the employer.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing views on whether sending applications on weekends is advisable, with no clear consensus reached on the best approach.

Contextual Notes

Some assumptions about workplace norms and expectations regarding application timing are not fully explored, leaving room for varying interpretations of professionalism.

Hello,

I'm trying to start my first job/career and I don't have much professionalism experiences. I'm wondering if sending job applications on a Saturday and/or Sunday will be acceptable or I should delay sending applications till Monday as a better option.

Thank you for your help.

I doubt most people would be in their office so if you did send it it probably wouldn't get opened/read/etc until minimum monday. Most of us are glad that its Friday afternoon. It shouldn't really matter just as long as it gets there in a reasonable time before the closing date.

Anytime is fine. Professionalism is about being reasonable, not about following some perceived or suspected cultural taboo or worrying about subtle psychology in everything that you do. You don't want to work for somebody that judges you on what time of day or night, or day of the week, you send an email, etc..

That's a neat way of putting it, fleem. I didn't think about it like that before!
