SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the challenge of obtaining a NACA airfoil profile from the 1A170E-JHA7660 propeller used in the Cessna 172S Skyhawk. Participants suggest reaching out to McCauley, the manufacturer of the propeller, for accurate information. Additionally, measuring the propeller directly from an aircraft at a local community airport is proposed as a viable method to gather necessary data for modeling in SolidWorks.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of NACA airfoil design
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks modeling software
  • Knowledge of propeller specifications and measurements
  • Basic principles of aerodynamics related to aircraft design
NEXT STEPS
  • Contact McCauley for technical specifications of the 1A170E-JHA7660 propeller
  • Research NACA airfoil characteristics and their applications in propeller design
  • Learn techniques for measuring propeller dimensions accurately
  • Explore SolidWorks tutorials focused on propeller modeling
USEFUL FOR

Aerospace engineering students, design engineers, and hobbyists involved in aircraft modeling and propeller design will benefit from this discussion.

Hey everyone, I am looking for either a resource or an answer to my question. Does anyone know of a way to gleam a NACA airfoil off of a 1A170E-JHA7660 propeller? I am trying to make a model of the prop in Solidworks for my Design Project. I know the 1A170 family of props is old as dirt and I know that the application (Cessna 172S Skyhawk) is literally the Toyota Camry of the skies; shockingly no one has studied much of anything on the specific airfoil used in the prop.

Hmmmm. Sounds like a good question for McCauley, the folks who actually make the propeller.

Are there any of those aircraft at your local community airport? If so, you could probably ask permission from the airport and the plane owner to make measurements on the prop.
