SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the use of sensors for detecting dirt on floors, specifically in the context of robotic vacuum cleaners like the Roomba, which employs a piezoelectric sensor for this purpose. Participants emphasize the need to define "dirty" in terms of particle density, size, and the presence of bacteria to determine the appropriate sensor technology. The conversation highlights the importance of understanding the application requirements for effective sensor selection in cleaning robots.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of piezoelectric sensors and their applications
  • Knowledge of particle density and size measurement techniques
  • Familiarity with robotic vacuum cleaner technology
  • Basic principles of sensor technology and environmental monitoring
NEXT STEPS
  • Research alternative sensors for dirt detection, such as infrared or laser sensors
  • Explore the principles of particle size analysis in environmental applications
  • Investigate the integration of multiple sensor types in robotic cleaning systems
  • Learn about the role of machine learning in enhancing sensor data interpretation
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for robotics engineers, product designers of cleaning devices, and anyone involved in the development of sensor technologies for environmental monitoring.

Hello guys. Is there any sensors to check if the floor is dirty. For Example, the roomba room cleaner bot uses Piezoelectric sensor to check if the floor is dirty. What other sensors can be used for this same purpose?

Thank you.

Can you define dirty? (like particle density, particle size, presence of bacteria...) What is the application? Is this question for schoolwork?

any particles on the floor, like sand, dust, etc,. It is for a room cleaner ,which cleans if it detects dirt/dust.
