Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the decision of whether to pursue a career in pharmacy or medicine in Turkey, particularly in the context of future plans to settle in Eastern Europe. Participants explore the viability of each option based on various factors including regulations, licensure, and personal experience.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant questions the viability of pursuing either pharmacy or medicine while considering future plans to settle in Eastern Europe.
  • Another participant asks for information about the original poster's existing qualifications and experience in medicine, highlighting the importance of memorization skills.
  • A third participant suggests creating a list of candidate countries for practice and emphasizes the need to understand the regulations regarding licensure for foreign-trained professionals.
  • A later reply adds that understanding the requirements of specific countries is crucial, citing examples of non-native nurses in the US and how their training aligns with local standards.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the importance of understanding regulatory requirements for practice in different countries, but there is no consensus on which career path is more viable.

Contextual Notes

The discussion lacks specific details about the regulatory environments in Eastern European countries and does not resolve the complexities involved in licensure for foreign-trained professionals.

So, suppose that I went abroad, and I plan to settle in Eastern Europe eventually, so, which option is more viable??

Welcome to PF.

What university degree do you have already? What is your field of study?

Do you have any experience in medicine? What kind of Patient Contacts have you had so far (in volunteer work, first aid work, etc.)? How good are you at memorizing things?

You should first develop a list of candidate countries in which you plan to practice. Then find out the regulations in each of those countries concerning licensure for practice in medicine and pharmacy if you are not a citizen and if you received your training elsewhere. Compare the difficulties.

To add to @CrysPhys ' reply, it is very important to look at the requirements of the country or countries in which you plan to work. In the US, you will find that most non-native nurses are from India or the Philippines. Why those two countries? Because their programs closely parallel that of the US, which makes it easier to become licensed.
