Should I Take Calc I Before Physics I?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

Taking Calculus I before enrolling in Physics I is strongly recommended due to the calculus-based nature of the physics curriculum. Many participants in the discussion emphasized that a solid understanding of Calculus I provides essential mathematical foundations necessary for comprehending concepts in Physics I, particularly in Electricity and Magnetism (E&M). Staggering the courses may hinder the ability to grasp advanced physics topics effectively.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of Calculus I concepts
  • Familiarity with basic physics principles
  • Knowledge of Electricity and Magnetism fundamentals
  • Time management skills for course scheduling
NEXT STEPS
  • Review Calculus I topics such as limits, derivatives, and integrals
  • Explore introductory physics concepts related to motion and forces
  • Study Electricity and Magnetism principles to prepare for future coursework
  • Investigate course scheduling strategies for optimal learning
USEFUL FOR

Students planning to take Physics I, particularly those in STEM fields, as well as academic advisors guiding course selection for optimal understanding of calculus-based physics.

Should I take Calc I concurrently with Physics I or take only Calc I my first semester(then stagger the Physics/Calc curriculum for future semesters)?

I've heard posters mention that taking Calc I then starting Physics a semester late is better for E&M later on. Any advice? Thanks.
