SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the identification of baryons containing a charm quark, specifically addressing the claim of a sextet of baryons. The user questions the validity of this claim by listing multiple baryon combinations involving charm quarks, such as csb, cds, and cdb. The confusion arises from the apparent existence of more than six combinations, prompting a request for clarification on quark combination rules for baryons. The user also lists potential baryons like ddc, udc, and uuc, indicating a deeper inquiry into the classification of these particles.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of baryon classification and quark combinations
  • Familiarity with isospin and charge diagrams
  • Knowledge of the Standard Model of particle physics
  • Basic principles of quantum chromodynamics (QCD)
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the classification of baryons in the context of the Standard Model
  • Study the rules governing quark combinations and their implications for baryon formation
  • Explore isospin and its role in particle physics
  • Investigate the properties and types of charm quarks in baryons
USEFUL FOR

Particle physicists, students studying quantum mechanics, and anyone interested in the classification and properties of baryons containing charm quarks.

Homework Statement

Basically I've been asked to draw a isospin vs. charge diagram - not a problem. But the question states that this is a sextet, but when I look at the combinations/look up baryons with charm quarks - there are many more than six! Am I missing some quark combination rules for baryons?

Homework Equations

Q = -1, 0, 1

The Attempt at a Solution

For example what is wrong with the combinations

csb
cds
cdb
cud
cus
ctd
cts
ctb

etc.?

Thanks in advance for the help guys :(
