SUMMARY

The discussion centers on career guidance for a community college student pursuing an Electrical/Electronics A.A.S. with experience in operating a 1 MW generator powered by landfill gas. The student is considering whether to complete their degree and transition into mechatronics engineering or to pursue a two-year mechanical engineering technician degree before transferring to a full engineering program. Key concerns include cost-effectiveness and job security associated with each educational path, as well as the practical applications of a mechatronics degree.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of Electrical/Electronics A.A.S. curriculum
  • Familiarity with mechatronics engineering principles
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering technician programs
  • Insight into job market trends for engineering graduates
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the curriculum and career outcomes of mechatronics engineering programs
  • Explore mechanical engineering technician programs and their transfer options
  • Investigate job security and salary expectations in mechatronics versus mechanical engineering
  • Connect with professionals in the field to gain insights on career paths
USEFUL FOR

Students in engineering disciplines, career advisors, and professionals seeking to understand the pathways and job security in mechatronics and mechanical engineering fields.

Okay, so I am in a community college going for an Electrical/Electronics A.A.S. I currently work on a 1 MW generator powered by a diesel engine converted to run on landfill gas. I want to pursue a path that I can use my 5 years of experience doing what I do now to get a good career. Now I was wondering, should I finish my degree and go into mechatronics engineering (spelling?) Go for a 2 year mechanical engineeringentry degree (you transfer after 2 years and getting the technician degree to get a engineering degree) or what.

I just need some insight into what my options are. Sorry this is rushed boss just got here.

Okay to expand a bit, boss just left, I am wondering which path costs the least and will have the best job security really. I was considering getting my 2 year aas then getting the 2 year ME degree. I am also really wondering what exactly a mechatronics degree would be good for? Lots of questions I know any help is appreciated!
