Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the decision-making process regarding pursuing a career in cosmological physics versus engineering. Participants express their interests in physics and the challenges they face in choosing between these fields, considering factors like financial stability and personal passion.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants express a strong interest in physics and cosmological physics but are currently pursuing engineering, questioning how to balance these interests.
  • Others highlight the financial advantages of engineering, suggesting that it may provide a stable income that allows for the pursuit of physics later on.
  • One participant notes the difficulty in finding a good salary in pure physics, advocating for an engineering path as a means to afford further study in physics.
  • Another participant questions whether it is possible to return to physics after completing an engineering degree, expressing a preference for science over engineering.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally express a mix of views, with some advocating for engineering due to financial reasons, while others emphasize their passion for physics and the desire to pursue it despite potential financial challenges. The discussion remains unresolved regarding the best path forward.

Contextual Notes

Participants' perspectives are influenced by personal circumstances, financial considerations, and the perceived value of each field, but specific assumptions about job markets and personal fulfillment are not fully explored.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals considering a career in physics or engineering, particularly those weighing financial stability against personal interests in scientific research.

iam interested in physics and want to specialize in cosmological physics,
but iam currently doing my engineering,so what do i do?and
is science better or technology?

Physics news on Phys.org
I am exactly in that very situation. I still not have choosen eng but i am sure to have it within next 15 days. I am very much enthusiastic abt physics and want to pursure research in astrophysics. But, nobody supports me wholeheartedly. Furthermore money is easy in engineering.

Its hard to find a good salary in pure physics. My advice is engineering. then you'll make enough that you have time and can afford to study pure physics on the side. So by NOT pursuing physics (at first) you might actually learn MORE physics in the long run. And a few extra dollars come in handy for other things, too.

Yeah fleem. Thats what I have been thinking of. Thank you.

but though you say,for good salary etc, engineering is better, but once you finish your
engineering ,can you get back to physics?can you put your interest at stake ,
i mean i find science very good than engineering?
