Strange Miller Index Notation [00.1]

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the interpretation of the Miller Index notation, specifically the notation [00.1]. Abigale suggests that this may refer to the notation [001], which is commonly used in hexagonal crystal systems to describe directions using three coordinates. The reference provided points to a document that elaborates on this notation, particularly on page 101, which offers further insights into the topic.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of Miller Indices in crystallography
  • Familiarity with hexagonal crystal systems
  • Basic knowledge of crystallographic directions and planes
  • Access to crystallography literature for reference
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the concept of Miller Indices in detail
  • Study hexagonal crystal systems and their coordinate systems
  • Examine the referenced document for in-depth explanations on page 101
  • Explore additional resources on crystallography notation and its applications
USEFUL FOR

Students and professionals in materials science, crystallography researchers, and anyone interested in understanding crystal structure notation.

Do someone knows what this dot "." means?
I just know this notation [001].

Thank u

Maybe they mean ##[00\bar{1}]##?

This is an old fashioned way to describe directions in hexagonal systems using 3 coordinates. See the first few pages here:

In particular page 101.
