AI Thread Summary
The double lead guitar technique, initially introduced by George Harrison on "Your Bird Can Sing," gained prominence through Jimmy Page's use in "Ramble On" and became a hallmark of the Allman Brothers. This technique is appreciated for its soaring sound, unmatched by other instruments. In contemporary music, artists like Orianthi and D_Drive continue to innovate within this style, showcasing complex guitar work. D_Drive's performances, particularly Yuki's cover of "Highly Strung," exemplify the technique's evolution. The discussion also highlights the varying quality of concerts relative to ticket prices, emphasizing that fame often dictates cost rather than performance quality. Notable mentions include Larkin Poe's rise in southern rock and various young prodigies, such as Evlee and Maya Neelakantan, who are gaining attention for their exceptional musical talents. The thread underscores the ongoing evolution of guitar music and the significance of passionate performances over mere fame.

Their recent songs with vocals are okay...
and these probably help them get the attention they deserve.

However, I much preferred their earlier instrumental works, which were raw and unique.

  • ASTERISM - Faced/Burned (Live in Studio)

  • ASTERISM - Gunfire (Live in Studio)

  • ASTERISM - Church (Live in Studio)

Great groove, both loose and tight. Catchy tune. And they can sing. In the radio era they could have been big.

Dig the bass drum. It's got dynamics. I appreciate this oft-overlooked but key skill.

Wow! She can really sing. She's Indonesian, likely from Jakarta. That's a basically South Asian style, I've never been there but I would guess it goes from India to the Middle East, a Muslim thing. I like that style of singing, lots of subtleties that Western singers don't do. There is a tiny Japanese singer named Reol who has some south Asian influence, I hope more Westerners pick that up some day.

I don't particularly care for this style of music but God what a badass.

Nur is Arabic for "light" or "radiance" and is a common name. Often transliterated as Noor.

If this isn't a hit I'll eat my hat.

At first I thought she was a mechanic repairing that cassette.

I generally don't like AI art but it is really good at portraying grotesque ugliness, which is what this song is about.

Her singing is OK but the slide guitar is the greatest. A "gamechanger" from Finland.

Superfly flew by long ago. All their stuff was this good. Singer Shiho Oshi continues under that name but it's completely different. The guitar player was the rock of the band and he retired.

They were a phenomenal success. Shiho still fills arenas with her current MOR style.

They have nothing to do with the Curtis Mayfield Superfly. It's means flying superly.

There are more violin prodigies than you would think. Well in a world of seven billion people there had ought to be seven like this.

I might be able to see Gacharic Spin for real in ten days. By sheer luck they are performing close to the out of the way place I'm staying south of Tokyo, the day after I get there. Not sold out yet!

To abate scalping, tickets cannot be purchased except while in Japan. You have to go through vetting, order a SIM card online, either have it mailed to you or pick it up on a designated day at a designated outlet, show your original passport, activate the card, then register and order the ticket online. I suspect that only Westerners are allowed to do this. In Singapore there was a scandal about Taylor Swift tickets. I guess Singapore is the epicenter of online scalping and it's hard to block your own citizens. A bill was introduced in the legislature to get this under control. Card companies are in on it too. Once I had a card blocked for just trying to buy a ticket from outside Japan.

I went to a Gacharic Spin concert once to buy a ticket at the gate. They weren't sure what to do with me. What strange behavior is this? They decided to take my money then let me enter last.

At the time Gacharic Spin announced they were breaking up. It appears they got jobs and found out that that was even worse than music. That theme shows up in their art over and over.

So they reformed and got serious. The new frontperson and drummer are a big improvement, I want to hear them again.

The Nankai Trio. The James Brown fatback beat goes fusion. Numba One on my hit parade.

That drum fill at 1:00 burns me up. Why doesn't everyone do that? They probably will, sooner or later.

Here's James and the Famous Flames doing the original fatback. They say the drummer is Clyde Stubblefield.

Dennis Chambers said that when he was 13 years old he was so good at the fatback beat that James tried to hire him. James wouldn't provide a tutor though so Mom said no.
