In summary, the conversation discusses the use of LaTeX in titles and its potential impact on page layouts and indexing by Google. It is noted that LaTeX has been used in titles in the old system but has been changed to itex in some cases to avoid spanning multiple lines. It is also mentioned that users rarely attempt to use LaTeX in titles and it is not seen as an urgent issue to address.

Can't say if it is OK or not, it is just the way it is.

We've been able to insert LaTeX into titles for quite a while, in the old system. There have been a couple that I changed from tex to itex so they didn't span multiple lines.

Shouldn't be encouraged because it can break layouts and google will index the page as "Spectrum of #(x_1,x_2,x_3,...)\mapsto(0,x_1,2^{-1}x_2,...)#"

We can simply remove it everywhere we see it. Users rarely try that and it is probably hard to change, so it does not look like an urgent issue.
