SUMMARY

The constituents of TNT (2-methyl-1,3,5-trinitrobenzene) are not nitric acid, sulfuric acid, and toluene, as these chemicals are used in its synthesis rather than being its components. TNT is primarily composed of trinitrotoluene, which is derived from toluene through nitration processes involving nitric and sulfuric acids. Understanding the explosive nature of TNT involves studying its chemical structure and the energy released during detonation.

PREREQUISITES
  • Chemistry of explosives
  • Nitration processes in organic chemistry
  • Understanding of chemical compounds and their reactions
  • Basic knowledge of explosive materials and their classifications
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the nitration process used to synthesize TNT
  • Study the chemical structure and properties of trinitrotoluene
  • Explore the mechanisms of explosive reactions
  • Learn about safety protocols when handling explosive materials
USEFUL FOR

Chemistry students, explosive material researchers, safety professionals, and anyone interested in the science of explosives.

Homework Statement

What are the constituents of TNT? How much explosive is it?

2. The attempt at a solution
Nitric acid, Sulphuric acid and toluin are the constituents of TNT.
I couldn't answer the next question. I would like to know more about its explosive nature.

Wikipedia.org would probably have a useful entry on TNT.

No, they are used to synthesize TNT (or 2-methyl-1,3,5-trinitrobenzene), but in no way they are "constituents".
