Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around finding alternatives to an online graphing program that is currently unavailable. Participants share recommendations for graphing tools that can handle various types of equations, including 2D and 3D plots.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant notes that a long-used online graphing program is down and seeks recommendations for alternatives.
  • Another participant suggests a standalone program called GraphCalc, which supports 2D and 3D plotting, Cartesian and polar coordinates, and parametric equations, but does not handle implicit equations due to their computational complexity.
  • A third participant expresses gratitude for the recommendation of GraphCalc.
  • Another option mentioned is Wolfram Alpha, which is suggested as a potential resource for graphing needs.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not appear to reach a consensus on a single preferred tool, as multiple options are presented without clear agreement on their effectiveness or suitability.

Contextual Notes

Limitations: The discussion does not explore the specific features or limitations of the suggested tools in detail, nor does it address user experiences with them.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals looking for graphing software or online tools for visualizing mathematical equations, particularly those who have relied on specific programs that are currently unavailable.

http://www.graphcalc.com/" , a standalone program for Windows, is my favourite. Plots 2D and 3D, Cartesian and polar, and does parametric equations as well. (No implicit--those are computationally difficult to graph). If you really need online graphing applets just do a google search for "graphing applet" or "online graphing calculator".
