Hi.

Basically, the title. I've been thinking about combining phenolphthalein and bromothymol for this purpose.

Will this work? Thoughts?

I assume you're looking for a blue/pink change between acid and alkali or vice versa. Your combination won't work; phenolphthalein is colourless in acid and pink in alkali, while bromothymol blue is yellow in acid and blue in alkali, so the combination will be yellow in acid and purple in alkali.

Thymol Blue or Congo Red might give you the change you want.

Never heard about connection between baby gender and pH, what am I missing?

Presumably some way of turning something pink or blue to inform people of the baby's gender. Not a test for gender.
