If Venus had an atmosphere similar to that of Mars, would Venus then be a more attractive target than Mars for human colonization?
The discussion centers on the potential for human colonization of Venus compared to Mars, particularly considering hypothetical scenarios where Venus has an atmosphere similar to that of Mars. Participants explore various aspects of colonization, including environmental conditions, accessibility, and long-term sustainability.
Participants express a range of views, with no consensus on whether Venus could be a more attractive target than Mars for colonization. Disagreements persist regarding the feasibility of colonization efforts and the implications of Venus's harsh conditions.
Participants note various limitations, including the challenges of modifying Venus's atmosphere, the current technological constraints in genetic engineering, and the unresolved nature of long-term sustainability in such environments.
yes and No. yes Venus is the same size, mass as Earth but it is 44 million miles closer to the sun. therefore No Venus has a runaway greenhouse gas atmosphere which is unlikly to change ever! Also the hemisphere facing the sun is constantly at above 400 Celsius.lifeonmercury said:If Venus had an atmosphere similar to that of Mars, would Venus then be a more attractive target than Mars for human colonization?
