SUMMARY

The forum discussion centers on the peak year for Vipera Berus, the European adder, in Norway, coinciding with a notable increase in the lemming population. A dedicated snake enthusiast shared a video capturing a competitive display between two male vipers vying for the attention of a female, humorously referred to as Miss Fatty Brown. The interaction, described as resembling a "love dance," highlights the unique behaviors of these reptiles in their natural habitat.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of Vipera Berus behavior and ecology
  • Familiarity with the lemming population dynamics
  • Basic knowledge of reptile mating rituals
  • Awareness of wildlife conservation principles in Norway
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the mating behaviors of Vipera Berus
  • Explore the ecological impact of lemming population surges
  • Investigate wildlife conservation efforts in Norway
  • Learn about the role of public perception in snake conservation

In Norway, we have a peak year not only for lemmings, but also for Vipera Berus, the European adder/viper.

We also have dedicated snake lovers, like this woman, who enjoys having roughly 8 vipers outside her garden (her neighbours are rather annoyed that she doesn't kill them on sight).

On this video, she managed to capture a fight between two males, the grey-black ones, over who should couple with Miss Fatty Brown:

Snakes!

Looks more like a love dance if you ask me (no snake expert, BTW).
