Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the question of which engineering schools in the US are perceived as "easy" yet still appealing to employers. Participants explore the implications of seeking a less demanding academic experience while pursuing an engineering degree.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses a desire for an engineering program that is less demanding but still respected by employers.
  • Another participant points out the contradiction in seeking an "easy" program while aiming for strong employer recognition.
  • A different participant emphasizes that an engineering degree is inherently challenging and suggests that if difficulty is a concern, the individual might consider a different career path.
  • Some participants express frustration at the idea of wanting an engineering degree without the associated workload, questioning the motivations behind such a choice.
  • There is a suggestion to clarify what specific type of engineering the individual is interested in, as this could influence the choice of school.
  • One participant mentions the availability of online resources to find rankings of top engineering schools.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally disagree on the feasibility of finding an engineering program that meets the criteria of being both easy and well-regarded by employers. The discussion remains unresolved regarding the balance between academic rigor and personal preferences.

Contextual Notes

Participants express varying assumptions about the nature of engineering education and the expectations of the field, which may not be universally applicable.

In thee US of course, which are easy but look very good to employers? I like engineering a lot, and I am not doing it for the money but I don't want to be bummed down by many projects and assignments.

Those are contradictory requirements.

An engineering degree at ANY school is going to be difficult and time consuming. If it's what you really want to do then this shouldn't be an issue for you. If it is an issue, choose another path.

Better pick another major then. Not only would I not want a lazy classmate getting the same degree that I worked my arse of for, but I wouldn't want some bum building the bridges my family drives on or the planes that my children will fly on.

If you don't want to be bummed down by projects and assignments then do a L.A. major; otherwise grow set or take a hike.

Wait... what? How do you like engineering but you don't want to do engineering projects and assignments?

Exactly what kind of engineering do you have in mind?

Obviously you could just google up "top engineering schools" or "top undergraduate engineering schools".
