SUMMARY

The discussion centers on sourcing reference data for pressure distribution on pod structures under aircraft fuselages, specifically in relation to a thesis project. Participants suggest contacting airframe manufacturers, particularly Cessna, as they have relevant experience with similar designs, such as the Citation X. Additionally, the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is recommended as a practical approach to obtaining necessary data, emphasizing the importance of empirical validation for thesis work.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) principles
  • Familiarity with aircraft design and aerodynamics
  • Knowledge of pressure distribution concepts in fluid mechanics
  • Experience with data sourcing and research methodologies in aerospace engineering
NEXT STEPS
  • Research Cessna's Citation X design and its aerodynamic features
  • Learn about CFD software tools such as ANSYS Fluent or OpenFOAM
  • Investigate existing literature on pressure distribution in aerospace structures
  • Explore methods for validating CFD results with empirical data
USEFUL FOR

Aerospace engineering students, researchers in fluid dynamics, and professionals involved in aircraft design and analysis will benefit from this discussion.

Dear all,

I am working on a thesis right now and looking for the reference data regarding to the pressure distribution on this kind of pod (or similar structure) under the fuselage.
Is there any people can give me some hints to find those data? Thanks a lot~

You're going to have to talk to an airframer for that. I can't imagine something like that is going to be readily available. The design of features like that has such an impact on fuel economy that it may be like pulling teeth. I would recommend contacting someone with Cessna. I know their Citation X has the same feature under its fuselage.

I wonder if you might be better off just trying to do some of your own CFD. It would probably be quicker. Good luck.

CFD is what I am going to do, this is the reason I need some reference data to support my result. Thanks~
