The discussion highlights both the strengths and weaknesses of Physics Forums (PF). The best aspects include the accessibility of knowledgeable members who provide clear explanations, the community's willingness to help, and the opportunity for engaging discussions across various STEM topics. Users appreciate the intellectual environment and the professionalism of moderators, which helps maintain high-quality interactions. Conversely, the worst aspects noted include the addictive nature of the forum, which can detract from personal productivity, and frustrations with unresponsive members or misleading information. There are complaints about the prevalence of trolls and the challenges posed by poorly constructed homework posts. Additionally, some users express dissatisfaction with the emotional intensity of political discussions and the need for clearer guidelines in the homework section. Overall, while PF is celebrated for its community and knowledge-sharing, it faces challenges related to user engagement and content management.

Use the template, don't delete it / don't just type everything above it and leave it below blank.
Show your attempt (I know it's a site rule but perhaps it's something that needs to be more obvious).

It is not working :( Try to start a thread outside of Homework & Coursework Questions section. In most cases you will see a red, bold message "Do NOT post homework! Homework questions go here". Yet we (Mentors) delete/move several HW messages posted in wrong forums a day.

I like the idea of adding information about topic titles to the rules. It will be ignored as many other rules are, but at least I will have no problems deleting these threads :devil:

Hey, where'd the Reply button go?

New Reply is still visible :)

Yeah, sure but one wonders for how long? I mean, if some really bright contributor has some really important stuff to articulate to the PF community, and this guy has some problems in formulating his/her thoughts in less than a few words, and maybe she/he is thinking while she/he is typing, well then you won’t see those very important words... unless you have one of these nifty 1,500 ft LED screens and maybe everyone do not have purchased this fine equipment quite yet... :smile:

Right?

EDIT:
Aha! You mean the button. I thought you meant New Replies!

* problem gone *

:biggrin:
