Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the integrated luminosity values for the CMS experiment at CERN, focusing on the specific measurements and comparisons with the ATLAS experiment. Participants explore the available resources for this data and the implications of uncertainties in the measurements.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation, Conceptual clarification, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant inquires about the integrated luminosity of the CMS experiment.
  • Another participant provides links to the ATLAS luminosity results, noting that CMS and ATLAS do not record the same integrated luminosity.
  • A participant mentions approximate values for CMS: ~20 fb-1 in 2012 at 8 TeV and ~4.5 fb-1 in 2011 at 7 TeV, but acknowledges their affiliation with the ATLAS project limits their knowledge of CMS specifics.
  • A link to the CMS luminosity results is shared, indicating where to find the relevant data.
  • One participant humorously suggests that finding CMS data is as simple as replacing "ATLAS" with "CMS" in the provided links.
  • Another participant points out that searching for "CMS integrated luminosity" on Google leads to the CMS page, emphasizing that the luminosity values have uncertainties of a few percent, suggesting that differences between ATLAS and CMS fall within these uncertainties.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the exact integrated luminosity values for CMS, and there are multiple perspectives regarding the comparison with ATLAS and the implications of measurement uncertainties.

Contextual Notes

The discussion highlights the uncertainties associated with luminosity measurements and the potential for differences between the two experiments, which may not be fully resolved due to varying recording methods.

Wow lol, all you do is replace Atlas with Cms! That's easy :P

Typing "CMS integrated luminosity" into google gives that page as first hit...

The luminosity values have uncertainties of a few percent, so the difference between ATLAS and CMS is within the uncertainties.
