SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on the technological parameters of modern MRI systems, specifically sensitivity, signal detection magnitude, and noise levels. Participants highlight the importance of understanding the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in MRI, emphasizing that various adjustable parameters significantly influence SNR. A recommended resource for further reading is an introductory chapter available at the University of Chicago's wiki, which details how these factors interact in MRI technology.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of MRI technology and principles
  • Familiarity with signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) concepts
  • Knowledge of adjustable parameters affecting MRI performance
  • Basic engineering principles related to medical imaging
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the impact of magnetic field strength on MRI sensitivity
  • Explore advanced techniques for improving MRI signal-to-noise ratio
  • Study the role of coil design in MRI performance
  • Investigate the effects of different imaging sequences on noise levels
USEFUL FOR

Medical imaging engineers, MRI technologists, and researchers in radiology looking to enhance their understanding of MRI system performance and optimization.

Hi all,

I am wondering about the actual technological parameters of a modern MRI. In particular I mean sensitivity, i.e. the order of magnitude of the signals to be detected and the noise levels in practice.

Can somebody recommend a good reference about the subject from an engineering point of view?
