SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on calculating all possible resistance values using a 30Ω and a 60Ω resistor. The primary equation for series connection is confirmed as RS = R1 + R2, yielding a total resistance of 90Ω. Additionally, the forum emphasizes the importance of considering parallel connections, which can yield different resistance values. The participants are encouraged to visualize the resistor combinations to better understand the outcomes.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of series and parallel resistor configurations
  • Basic knowledge of Ohm's Law
  • Familiarity with resistance calculations
  • Ability to visualize electrical circuits
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the formula for calculating total resistance in parallel circuits
  • Explore practical applications of series and parallel resistor combinations
  • Learn about resistor color codes and their significance
  • Investigate the impact of resistor tolerance on circuit performance
USEFUL FOR

Electronics students, hobbyists, and anyone interested in understanding resistor combinations and their effects on circuit design.

1. Given only one 30Ω and one 60Ω, calculate all possible values of resistance that can be obtained.

2.I am not certain of which equation I should be using ... I never had other problems which gave only this information, usually the voltage is given or the current.

3. Here is my attempt but I strongly doubt it is right.
RS = R1 + R2
RS = 30Ω + 60Ω
RS = 90Ω

Hint: Consider how the resistors may be connected.

Think about different combinations that you can come up with these two resistors. Try to draw those combinations. That could help.
