What base to classify different string theory?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the classification of the five superstring theories, which are based on distinct symmetries and boundary conditions. These theories, while differing in their formulations, are interconnected through various dualities. The classification is essential for understanding the underlying principles of string theory and how these theories relate to one another.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of superstring theory concepts
  • Familiarity with symmetry in theoretical physics
  • Knowledge of boundary conditions in string theory
  • Awareness of dualities in physics
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the five superstring theories: Type I, Type IIA, Type IIB, heterotic string theory, and M-theory
  • Study the role of symmetry in theoretical physics
  • Explore the implications of boundary conditions in string theory
  • Investigate the concept of dualities and their significance in string theory
USEFUL FOR

The discussion is beneficial for theoretical physicists, students of string theory, and researchers interested in the classification and interrelation of superstring theories.

I do not know why can they classify 5 theories of superstring. Is that correct that they base on different symmetries?

They are motivated because of different boundary conditions one can impose. This gives different theories, which however are related by dualities.
