I think Canada is a peace keeping, well educated country advanced in understanding global issues. Dr. David Suzuki is a Canadian.

A bit cold in most places, but that is besides the point.
You're right outsider, it's about time we got rid of that Canadian stereotype. :-p

It doesn't take much, you just need to say the wrong thing when enough of us are at the right time of the month.  (Actually, that was the thread I was remembering, but I didn't remember what he had said in it, just that I replied something about women vs. dduardo...it wasn't really that bad.)

What is the Canadian Stereotype?

Hockey-loving, whiter-than-chalk outdoorsmen, with the dorkiest accent this side of Pittsburgh, who seem to revel in the mistakes of the US.

What is the American stereotype? Being from California and especially from Los Angeles, we tend to stereotype and look down on the rest of the US. I have to wonder if foreigners just group us with everyone else. There's such a huge difference between San Francisco and Little Rock, or Portland and Gainesville, I have to wonder how someone could stereotype the entire US.

Then again, maybe there's just as big a difference between Vancouver and Halifax. It's not like I know anything about either place aside from the physical geography.

That's okay, the rest of us stereotype and look down on those from L.A. as being a bunch of bleach-blonde, dark-tanned, beach-bum, bleeding heart liberal, ditzy airheads from LA LA land.

Actually, I would be interested to know what people outside of the U.S.A think of us. Really, what type of stereotypes to say Canadians have of Americans?

Yah its pretty hard to stereotype an American since most stereotypes mean a majority of the people are applicable to it. With this in mind, what in gods name is an American. White? black? asian? We have education ranging from some of the greatest universities on this planet all the way down to American Idol. We eat anything that grows or can be made anywhere. We experience every type of weather... we play every stupid sport we can find out about... the list goes on

Yep, you're right, that one works. I'll get Evo, MIH and Tsu to round up the Supersonic RV and check the ammo is fully stocked before we head down to FL. Where's SOS, she seems to be MIA lately. (Hey, I seem to need a 3-letter nickname!) Oh, wait, hmm...I think we're going to wait until summer is over and it's not so hot down there, and we should wait until hurricane season passes, and we should plan a trip to Disney with Zz while there...so, I think we'll keep you on your toes and watching your back a bit longer. Muwahahahahahahahahaha!

Pengwuino, so what your saying is that America is too diverse to be stereotyped. Great!

Yup! Unlike women however. They can, nay, should be stereotyped at all times.

Along with teenagers

Sooo...they're kind of like Canadians? Except Canadians play every stupid sport that requires ice they can find out about (curling, really?).

Well, since California is hardly out of the way between picking up Tsu and SOS, I'm sure we can make time to stop by and visit you on our way to FL. Men!

You know, we really revel in that image. Who needs to be intellectually substantial when you can be beautiful, wealthy, and spend all your time at the beach or cruising down the boulevard?

It's funny, though. Even within Los Angeles, you can't really stereotype everyone. The westsiders and south Orange County folk are the rich beach-bums. The eastsiders are hard-working Hispanics. The south bay is largely Boyz n the Hood style thugs, and the valleys are suburban havens for everyone. West Hollywood is the homosexual capital of the world (even has a pink city hall) and Malibu the natural disaster capital.

Oh yeah, and coastal Californians also look down on those from the inland valleys, especially the hicks up in Central California cow-towns. We steal all their water, too.

Great post! Especially hockey lovin whiter than chalk outdoorsmen part... I think you are referring to RED GREEN a Canadian comedian... similar to TOM GREEN minus the outdoorsmen part.

Vancouver is nothing like that... there is a place called Richmond that is virtually populated by all Chinese...

I think your LA comparison is valid... therefore the stereotypes created with each interaction...

While on vacation to foreign countries, if all Canadians claimed to be American, that would change the American stereotype (and viceversa)

If it wasnt for Rush and Styx I don't think any American would know about Canada.
