SUMMARY

A daily routine for a Mechanical Engineer varies significantly due to the broad nature of the field. Key characteristics of successful Mechanical Engineers include a strong aptitude for hands-on work, problem-solving skills, and a solid understanding of physics. Resources such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Occupational Outlook Handbook provide comprehensive insights into the roles and responsibilities of Mechanical Engineers. The daily activities can range from design and analysis to testing and modification of mechanical systems.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic physics principles
  • Familiarity with engineering design processes
  • Knowledge of CAD software for design (e.g., SolidWorks)
  • Problem-solving skills in technical contexts
NEXT STEPS
  • Explore the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Occupational Outlook Handbook for Mechanical Engineers
  • Learn about CAD software, specifically SolidWorks for mechanical design
  • Research different branches of mechanical engineering, such as thermodynamics and fluid mechanics
  • Investigate hands-on projects or internships to gain practical experience in mechanical engineering
USEFUL FOR

Students considering a career in engineering, aspiring Mechanical Engineers, and individuals interested in the daily responsibilities and skills required in the mechanical engineering field.

I've been told I would be a good Mechanical Engineer because I like hands on work and am good at it. And I have a decent understanding of physics and they somewhat interest me. I like to build and modify things. I like to solve problems and I'm pretty good at it. (At least I think so)
I'm 17 yrs old and I'm just curious if you guys think those are some good mechanical engineer characteristics?
And what does an average mechanical engineer do on a daily basis?

They work, mostly.

Had my central air system checked when it sortta wasn't working. I guess I hadn't replaced the filter. Guy suggested I might want to get a UV filter accessory. He said it would "kill bugs and particulates". I know UV can kill the former, not sure how he thinks it's gonna murder the latter. Now I'm finding out there's more than one type of UV filter: one for the air flow and one for the coil. He was suggesting we might get one for the air flow, but now we'll have to change the bulb...
