Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around a hypothetical scenario involving an asteroid traveling at 0.9c colliding with Earth. Participants are exploring concepts related to relativistic physics, including time dilation, length contraction, and energy calculations associated with the collision.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification, Mathematical reasoning

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • The original poster attempts to determine various aspects of the collision, including time coordinates in different reference frames, the lifespan of mice on the asteroid, and the energy released upon impact. Some participants question how to apply relevant physics concepts to these scenarios.

Discussion Status

Participants are engaging with the problem by asking for clarification on the original poster's attempts and suggesting that they provide their own reasoning or calculations. There is a focus on understanding the application of relativistic principles, but no consensus or resolution has been reached yet.

Contextual Notes

The original poster has presented multiple questions and scenarios, indicating a complex problem setup that may require further clarification and exploration of assumptions regarding relativistic effects and energy considerations.

in Earth's reference frame:
1) what is the space time coordinate when time = 0
2)when the asteriod will collide wth the earth?

asteriod speed = 0.9c
asteriod colliding with eath in 2 hrs time

b)The mice population in asteriod. In mice reference frame, determine how much time they are able to live before Asteriod collides with Earth?

C)Asteriod mass is 10*8kg is smashing onto earth, How much energy it will released?

d)If Earth has 10*22kJ of nuclear ordinance, can Earth evade this castrophoy?

e)In asteriod reference frame.
a) find the space time coordinate when t=0
b) asteriod collision with earth

thanks mate for attempting this question... appreciated guys :)

i do know i have to use
time dilation
length contraction
lorentz tranformation
time space coordinate

and also e=mc^2

but i not sure how to apply to this question

your help will be aprreciated :)

sorry, but on this forum you have to try the problems yourself first …

start with the poor ol' mice
