What Is A Radiation? (Heat Transfer)

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the concept of radiation, specifically in the context of heat transfer. Participants seek clarification on the nature of radiation, including its types and examples, with a focus on infrared radiation and its role in heat transfer.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants assert that the infrared (IR) part of sunlight is primarily responsible for carrying heat, identifying it as a form of radiation.
  • Others clarify that all forms of light, including visible light and radio waves, fall under the broader category of radiation, encompassing the entire electromagnetic spectrum.
  • There are repeated inquiries about the definition of infrared, indicating a lack of understanding among some participants.
  • Some participants express frustration with others for not utilizing available online resources to find answers independently.
  • One participant provides a link to additional resources, suggesting it may help clarify the topic further.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the understanding of radiation, as there are differing levels of knowledge and varying responses to questions about infrared radiation and the use of online resources.

Contextual Notes

Some participants exhibit uncertainty regarding the definitions and implications of radiation and infrared, while others emphasize the importance of independent research.

Could anyone please illustrate me about radiation by an illustration?

If don't mind, animation could be great.

What is IR?

IR is infra-red

Actually, ALL "light", visible to the human eye or not, is radiation. Radio waves are radiation. The entire electromagnetic spectrum is radiation.

This is such a basic concept that you should just poke around with Google.

Next question, what is infra red?

You REALLY need to learn how to use Google.
