Rocket Science. The basics of it are really not too difficult and well within the capability of A Level Physics.
I would add the usual caveat about answering your question and that is that can't expect to get far by jumping into the subject as advanced as Ion drive without understanding basics. People who try this sort of approach to difficult topics like this, usually end up disappointed.
