The discussion highlights concerns about the layout of the "What's New" page, particularly the inclusion of Latest Profile Posts at the bottom, which users find confusing due to the lack of context and interactions with unfamiliar users. Additionally, the placement of Trending Content at the top is seen as an inconvenience, forcing users to scroll past it to access the Latest Posts section. The preference for the classic "What's New" layout, used for about 20 years, is expressed, indicating a desire for familiarity and usability. Users also note that the recent profile posts primarily serve to identify and report spam, which is prevalent. Overall, there is a call for a review of the current layout to enhance user experience.

Two things now I find weird about the What's New page (my de facto home page for PF).
  1. The Latest Profile Posts at the bottom I have always felt was weird. I don't know why I'm seeing the profile messages at all on my What's New page, let alone:
    • from and to complete strangers whom I have not interacted with.
    • with zero context, so I couldn't make sense of them even if I tried.

  2. The Trending Content at the top (which I think is relatively new) simply forces me to scroll past it to get to the Latest Posts section I came here for.

    :sorry:

I'm not really complaining, per se; after all, I'm just one member. I just wonder if I'm the only one who prefers the What's New "classic" page (which I have been using for about 20 years).

The main use of the recent profile posts for me is that I can see them and report the spam ones, which outnumber non-spam ones two or three to one IME.

Hello everyone, I recently revisited Physics Forums after a long hiatus (about 4-5 years) and started catching up on the recent discussions. What immediately struck me—and what inspired this thread—is seeing so many of the exact same user names in the "Latest Posts" section who were just as active when I was last here! To the dedicated, long-term, and continuously active members of this community: What keeps you coming back and contributing regularly after all this time? Is it the joy...
