AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around the anticipation of reaching 30,000 members on a forum, with participants making predictions about the exact time and date it will happen. Various members speculate on the current membership count, which fluctuates due to the forum administrator, Greg, deleting inactive accounts to maintain an accurate representation of active users. There is a playful competition among members to guess when the milestone will be reached, with humorous exchanges about the potential for the 30,000th member to be a spammer. As the count approaches 30,000, excitement builds, culminating in the announcement of the new member, "nabla." However, some members express skepticism about the legitimacy of this new account, suspecting it may be linked to another member, Ivan, raising the possibility of a conspiracy. The thread captures a mix of camaraderie, humor, and light-hearted conspiracy theories as members engage in this milestone event.

  • #69
I've wasted a whole afternoon already...

Wasted? You call sitting and waiting for members to register wasting time?

  • #71
I was refreshing the screen, and the total post count went down by one.

  • #72
I have been reading about hippies/1960s on wikipedia to waste time

  • #73
I started on wikipedia, now I've migrated to reading a beginner's introduction to Arc Welding.

  • #74
Does anyone here do arc welding? I think it's awesome.

 Wouldn't it be so disappointing if the 30,000th member ended up being a spammer we had to ban immediately? Oh, no matter, we'll probably scare off whoever it is with all the congratulatory remarks; the attention will embarrass them back into lurking, poor newbie.

One that can satisfy ?

This is getting nerve racking. I have things to do, but I can't leave until the 30,000th member signs up.

They better not be a loser.

  • #82
I predict that we hit 30,000 between 2:06 and 4 pm PDT today.

"heads to the control room..." jk Yay 30k members!

  • #98
Hmm, I am thinking Nabla may not actually be a new member. *looks at Ivan*
Reasons:
-Nabla is too Math based for a new member.
-Nabla has not been active since 3:11, just minutes after joining.
-Ivan's activity. No posts from Ivan between 3:08 - 3:12, which in between Nabla had joined.
-Ivan's posts in this thread:

Looks a little on the suspicious side to me

IVAN! The evidence does all point the finger of guilt to him.

Our 30,000th member is an alien sock puppet!

  • #100

Could someone be pointing the finger in order to deflect suspicion?
