AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the availability of Chinese math and science texts, with participants noting that local Chinese bookstores often carry only basic middle school materials. In Vancouver, for example, Beijing Bookstore is mentioned as a resource, but it primarily stocks elementary texts. Some individuals suggest that for those comfortable with English, college-level math and science books are a better option. There is a desire among some participants to study both Chinese and advanced math simultaneously, but the challenge lies in finding suitable texts. Concerns are raised about the quality of Chinese math and science books, with some noting that while there are well-written texts, many are subpar. The conversation also touches on the affordability of English textbooks printed in Mainland China, which can be significantly cheaper but may compromise on quality. Overall, the thread highlights the difficulty in sourcing high-quality Chinese academic materials for advanced studies.

Is anyone aware of any resources available for purchasing Chinese math and science texts? The only ones I've been able to find sell but Chinese middle school texts.

Physics news on Phys.org
depending on where u live they might have chinese book stores, where I live (Vancouver) they have a store called Beijing Bookstore
if you just want challenging math and science texts and you have no problem understanding english then I simply suggest you purchase college level math and science books

Right. The chinese bookstores around here carry only the most elementary mathematics texts in chinese.

I'm currently in a rather intense program to learn chinese-mandarin. I have next to no time to study anything outside my target language. The idea is to be able to study chinese and math simultaneously.

I'm a Chinese student and just wonder why you have interests in Chinese math and science texts.Do you just want to learn mandarin.Actually,I would like to read texts written in English rather than in Chinese. Many Chinese math and science books are not good, though there are some well-written.

Are you referring to those China Mainland mathematics books that are usually published by those big universities in Mainland China?

Or those textbook in English but printed in Mainland?(much cheaper than the standard version, but lower quality)

Personally I got 2 books like that(in English, but printed in Mainland China)
I bought Rudin's Principle of Mathematical Analysis for around 5 bucks new.

Then again, I am pursuing my study in Hong Kong, so it's easier for me to get those books.

The book is fascinating. If your education includes a typical math degree curriculum, with Lebesgue integration, functional analysis, etc, it teaches QFT with only a passing acquaintance of ordinary QM you would get at HS. However, I would read Lenny Susskind's book on QM first. Purchased a copy straight away, but it will not arrive until the end of December; however, Scribd has a PDF I am now studying. The first part introduces distribution theory (and other related concepts), which...
I've gone through the Standard turbulence textbooks such as Pope's Turbulent Flows and Wilcox' Turbulent modelling for CFD which mostly Covers RANS and the closure models. I want to jump more into DNS but most of the work i've been able to come across is too "practical" and not much explanation of the theory behind it. I wonder if there is a book that takes a theoretical approach to Turbulence starting from the full Navier Stokes Equations and developing from there, instead of jumping from...
