Where Did the Big Bang Happen? - Comments

In summary, the Big Bang is believed to have occurred about 13.8 billion years ago in a singularity, but the specific location of the singularity is unknown due to the expansion of the universe. Scientists use observational evidence such as the expansion of the universe, cosmic microwave background radiation, and abundance of light elements to support the theory of the Big Bang happening everywhere in the universe at once. Therefore, there is no one specific location where the Big Bang happened and it is unlikely that we will ever know the exact location due to the lack of observational evidence. The expansion of the universe, known as cosmic expansion, is ongoing and happening everywhere at once rather than in a specific location, providing key evidence for the Big Bang theory.

"time and space did not exist before the Big Bang"
Reference https://www.physicsforums.com/insights/big-bang-happen/

(technically speaking, since "before" and "after" denote points "in time", according to standard models any reference to "before" the Big Bang is meaningless)

Since the responses in this comments thread have been mostly personal theories, speculation, or off-topic (all of which have been removed) it is the consensus of the mentors that the thread be locked.

1. Where did the Big Bang happen?

The Big Bang is believed to have happened about 13.8 billion years ago in a singularity, a point of infinite density and temperature. The specific location of the singularity is unknown, as the expansion of the universe has made it impossible to pinpoint.

2. How do scientists know where the Big Bang happened?

Scientists use a variety of observational evidence, such as the expansion of the universe, the cosmic microwave background radiation, and the abundance of light elements, to support the theory of the Big Bang. These pieces of evidence suggest that the Big Bang happened everywhere in the universe at once.

3. Did the Big Bang happen in one specific location?

No, the Big Bang is believed to have happened everywhere in the universe at once. This is because the universe was incredibly small and dense at the time of the Big Bang, and as it expanded, it carried the singularity with it. Therefore, there is no one specific location where the Big Bang happened.

4. Can we ever know the exact location of the Big Bang?

Due to the expansion of the universe and the lack of observational evidence from the time of the Big Bang, it is unlikely that we will ever be able to know the exact location of the singularity. However, scientists continue to study and gather evidence to improve our understanding of the early universe.

5. Is the Big Bang still happening in one specific location?

No, the Big Bang is not happening in one specific location. The expansion of the universe is ongoing, and it is happening everywhere at once, rather than in a specific location. This is known as the cosmic expansion and is one of the key pieces of evidence for the Big Bang theory.
