Yep!

Iridium in the K-T Boundary layer recognized which lead to the theory of meteor impacts as the source of mass extinctions.

Investigated the effect of bullets on the head and showed that a head can and will lunge in the direction from which the bullet entered. He shot watermelons, among other things.

The first picture is Alvarez's ID badge photo from Los Alamos.
