Why are some chemical powders too expensive?

I needed to do some experiments, so I was about to buy some chemical products.
But it failed because prices were so higher than I expected.
The prices got at least double, even triple.

That's pretty broad question that is essentially intractable without some details about the chemicals you're interested in.

Unless you are thinking of huge quantities, you could always purchase a product in granular form, then grind it to a powder yourself, if powder is necessary.
Suppliers usually ship granules or crystals because they preserve the substance better, and there is less risk from accidents in transport.
