AI Thread Summary
A user received an incorrect alert indicating that a post by stefanoquattrini quoted their content, but the actual quote was from another user, Sagittarius A-Star. The alert's link led to a post by Sagittarius A-Star, raising concerns about a potential bug in the forum's alert system. There was speculation about whether Sagittarius A-Star received a "replied to you" alert related to the same post. The discussion also noted that the post in question may have been deleted, contributing to the confusion. Overall, the thread highlights issues with the alert system's accuracy and post management.

I got an alert yesterday for a post by stefanoquattrini. Here's a screenshot showing it, where I've long-pressed it so you can see the URL.

Note that it says "quoted your post". But physicsforums.com/posts/7060332 quotes Sagittarius A-Star, not me. The link in the post's quote header says Sagittarius A-Star, not me, and takes you to a post by Sagittarius A-Star, not me.

It's not a huge thing, but it does suggest something slightly buggy in the alert system. I wonder if @Sagittarius A-Star got a "replied to you" alert for that post (not sure where you are in the world - the timestamp on the pictured alert is 19.30 GMT yesterday, about 11 hours 40 minutes before this post).

The link in my alert is

The time you describe fits to my time 20:30 [UTC+1].

If I remember correctly, he deleted a posting, while I was editing my

But I'm not sure, if it was exactly the posting, from which you got the alert.

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
This came up in my job today (UXP). Never thought to raise it here on PF till now. Hyperlinks really should be underlined at all times. PF only underlines them when they are rolled over. Colour alone (especially dark blue/purple) makes it difficult to spot a hyperlink in a large block of text (or even a small one). Not everyone can see perfectly. Even if they don't suffer from colour deficiency, not everyone has the visual acuity to distinguish two very close shades of text. Hover actions...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
