Boldface does not work on Greek letters in LaTeX because the default bold command does not apply to them. Users can achieve bold Greek letters by using the \boldsymbol command from the amsmath package. This allows for proper formatting of Greek symbols in boldface. The discussion references a solution found on TeX-LaTeX Stack Exchange for further clarification. Proper use of the \boldsymbol command resolves the issue effectively.

If you look at the Latex, both these characters ought to be in boldface, but the Greek letter does not appear in bold.

##\mathbf a##, ##\mathbf{\alpha}##

Is that something Latex can't do?

You can use \boldsymbol from amsmath:
##\boldsymbol{\alpha \beta \xi}##

Hello everyone, I recently revisited Physics Forums after a long hiatus (about 4-5 years) and started catching up on the recent discussions. What immediately struck me—and what inspired this thread—is seeing so many of the exact same user names in the "Latest Posts" section who were just as active when I was last here! To the dedicated, long-term, and continuously active members of this community: What keeps you coming back and contributing regularly after all this time? Is it the joy...
