SUMMARY

The forum discussion centers on a mathematical misunderstanding regarding division by a number greater than 1. The user initially believes that dividing a number should always result in a smaller value, but upon calculation, they observe that dividing (1.057023 * (10^14)) by 3.26 yields 3.24240184 × 10^13, which is indeed smaller. The confusion arises from the comparison of exponents, specifically (10^14) versus (10^13), clarifying that the result decreases as expected.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of scientific notation and exponent rules

(1.057023 * (10^14)) / 3.26 = 3.24240184 × 10^13

Shouldn't any number decrease when I divide by 3.26? Why does it increase?

It does decrease o.O
notice the ( 10^13) verses the (10^14) which is larger

1.2*10^5>2*10^3

Oh, crap. I am so sorry. I feel like a complete idiot. My apologies. I can't think right today:)
