Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around troubleshooting issues related to Quicktime compatibility and download problems for large video files. Participants share their experiences with launching the video and the challenges faced, particularly in relation to file size and software compatibility.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Technical explanation
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants express difficulty in launching the video file, attributing it potentially to user error or unfamiliarity with the software.
  • Others report being able to hear sound but not see video, raising concerns about compatibility with certain versions of Quicktime.
  • One participant mentions the lengthy download time on a dial-up connection, suggesting that the file size may be problematic for older systems.
  • There is speculation about whether the file might not be compatible with older versions of Quicktime, with some participants questioning the software used to launch the file.
  • Participants note varying experiences with the loading speed of the video, with one mentioning a progress bar indicating a slow download rate.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the cause of the issues, with multiple competing views regarding software compatibility and user experience remaining unresolved.

Contextual Notes

Limitations include uncertainty about the specific version of Quicktime being used, the impact of file size on performance, and the potential for memory issues on older systems.

It's pretty damn stupid but funny at the same time :)

I couldn't launch this--but then it could be "user error" -- I am still trying to learn the new-fangled gadgets on PF myself...

Yeah... I got the sound, but no video. (That would be disastrous for a porn site.)

Well, I patiently waited for all 14.4 Mb to download on my dial-up connection. Hee hee...it was worth it!

I don't even know what the hell I was trying to launch it with. There was no name on it. I wasn't Quicktime or Media Player or Realtime... what else is there?

It was Quicktime. Maybe it's not compatible with older versions? It's a HUGE file (for me to download on dial-up anyway), so you might have just run out of memory for it.

Oh, but that is weird. I've got QT on here and that's not what came up on my screen, unless it's some kind of subroutine that doesn't announce itself. As for the file, it took 2 or 3 minutes to load, but it was only 14.? meg. It was all in there, just the picture part wouldn't come back out. I couldn't quite figure out why it was so slow loading though. My progress bar said it was only coming in at 160 kb/sec.
