SUMMARY

Using aluminum as an anode and graphite as a cathode in electrolysis of salt water can produce aluminum chloride and other aluminum products. The process involves running a low amp current through the solution. However, safety concerns arise due to the potential generation of chlorine gas during the electrolysis process. Proper precautions must be taken to ensure safe operation.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of electrolysis principles
  • Familiarity with anode and cathode materials
  • Knowledge of chemical reactions involving aluminum and chlorine
  • Basic safety protocols for handling gases produced in electrolysis
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the electrolysis of salt water and its byproducts
  • Learn about safe handling procedures for chlorine gas
  • Explore alternative anode materials for electrolysis
  • Investigate the production of aluminum chloride and its applications
USEFUL FOR

Chemistry enthusiasts, hobbyists in electrolysis, and individuals interested in aluminum production methods will benefit from this discussion.

if used aluminum as my anode, and graphite or any other metal as my cathode. could i run a low amp current through salt water and make alminum chloride (or any other alminum product)? in other words how quickly and is it possible to produce any aluminum products with electrolysis? i was just wondering ?
