Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around the availability of accredited colleges offering Bachelor's or Associate's degrees in Astrophysics through distance learning, particularly for individuals in the Navy who may be stationed at sea.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant inquires about good colleges offering distance learning degrees in Astrophysics, expressing a desire to make academic progress while on sea duty.
  • Another participant mentions their experience on a Navy ship where a university (University of Phoenix) was available, suggesting that while a Bachelor's program may be hard to find online, many colleges offer Associate's degrees that could transfer to a Bachelor's program.
  • A further inquiry is made for additional accredited online or correspondence schools that offer degrees in the field of Astrophysics.
  • A participant recommends a website and its message board as a resource for further information on degree options.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not appear to reach a consensus on the availability of Bachelor's programs online, with some suggesting that only Associate's degrees may be more accessible.

Contextual Notes

Limitations include the lack of specific examples of accredited programs and the uncertainty regarding the transferability of degrees between institutions.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals in the military seeking to pursue higher education in Astrophysics while on duty, as well as those interested in distance learning options in STEM fields.

Hello all -

I was wondering if anyone knew of any GOOD colleges that offered all or at least part of a Bachelor's degree in Astrophysics via distance learning. I'll be transferring to a sea duty here, and could just wait to go straight to college, but I'd like to get at least something done.

Thanks all!

FYI, I'll be out of Norfolk, Virginia

I was on the Roosevelt for a year a while back and they had a university onboard. I believe it was U of Pheonix.

I don't think you are going to find a bachleors program online. However, there are many colleges that you can get an AA from, most of which will transfer into a bachleors program.

Just make sure it is an acredited school.

Thanks - anyone else know of any online or correspondence/distance learning schools (accredited) that have a Bachelor's or even an associate's degree program in this field?

Thanks
