Lorentz transformations (2nd year relativity)
Homework Statement A light signal is sent from the origin of a system K at t = 0 to the point x = 1 m, y = 8 m, z = 13 m. a) At what time t is the signal received? b) Find ( x', y', z', t' ) for the receipt of the signal in a frame K' that is moving along the x-axis of K at a speed of 0.6c...- affans

Solving Sound Interference: Phase Difference of Waves at 4.40m & 4.00m
Homework Statement Two sound waves, from different sources with the same frequency, 540 Hz, travel in the same direction at 330m/s. The sources are in phase. What is the phase difference of the waves at a point that is 4.40 m from one source and 4.00 from the other. Homework Equations...- affans

How Does Air Resistance Modify the Equation for Falling Objects?
so if i have understoon taylor series correctly, it just means the function e^x (or in my case e^-bt) can be REWRITTEN as a sum of individual terms given by the taylors series. Am i correct? and if I am correct then in my question, the higher the degree on t, the smaller the number. so...- affans

How Does Air Resistance Modify the Equation for Falling Objects?
Hi, thankyou very much. I have gotten the reduced equation. but can someone explain to me why the taylor expansion was needed? what does the expansion have to do with "time being very short"? also, why are only the terms until t^2 needed? thanks- affans

How Does Air Resistance Modify the Equation for Falling Objects?
Homework Statement The effect of air resistance is to slow down an object. It can be shown that the height of a falling object is given by the following: y=y_{o} - [t + (e^{-bt} - 1) / b] * g/b. Show that for short times the eqn is reduced to y=y_{o} - 0.5(g)(t^2) Homework...- affans

Is T a Linear Mapping from R2 to R1?
Homework Statement Let T: R2 -> R1 be given by T(x,y) = (y^2)x + (x^2)y. Is T linear? justify your answer Homework Equations The Attempt at a Solution Yes it is a linear mapping because both points map onto one point.- affans

What is the Force of Contact Between Two Blocks on a Frictionless Table?
From post 1 EQN1: Fapp = m1(a) + Fm2 EQN2: m2(a) = Fm1 but Fm1 = Fm2 (action rxn) = F therefore Fapp = m1(a) + m2(b) 3 = a(2 + 1) a = 1 m/s^2 therefore back to EQN 1 Fapp = m1(a) + F 3 = (2)(1) + F F = 1N? Can anyone confirm this answer? thanks (its not in...- affans

What is the Force of Contact Between Two Blocks on a Frictionless Table?
Homework Statement Two blocks are in contact on a frictionless table. A horizontol force is applied to one block as shown in Fig 7. If m1 = 2.0 kg, m2 = 1.0 kg, and |F|applied = 3N, find the force of contact between two blocks. ----> -------- | A | B | note: the height of B...- affans

High School How Does a Grade 12 Student Navigate Complex Physics Topics?
hehe this is just a thread to let you guys know your awosome. everyone of you. I don't have that many posts, but i do rread the threads. the reason i don't have posts is because I am a grade 12 student, and well if I have to say something, some one has already said it in more "advanced"...- affans

High School Designing a Water Transport System: Up to 10L, 3 Meters, No Kits
Thats exacltly what we had in mind. After it accellrates, its goes 3 meters. as it hit 3 meters, somehow the wheel's get locked, and the "tub holding the water balloons" is tipped over, and as a result all the water baloons falling into the bucket. -
