i must've screwed something up, for I'm getting a sqrt(2) for my alpha? maybe i screwed up something with the identities...- clumsy9irl

Graduate Pauli Matrices and orthogonal projections
Ok, I'm working with the Pauli Matrices, and I've already gone through showing a few bits of information. I've got a good idea how to keep going, but I'm not exactly sure about this one-- say M= 1/2(alphaI + a*sigma) where alpha E C, a=(ax, ay, az) a complex vector, a*sigma=ax sigmax+ay...- clumsy9irl

Graduate Lagrangian Method- 1st form? Zwangskraefte?
Yes, r^2= az. Typo that happened when bolding. Sorry :( But thank you very much for your response. THat's exactly what I need, more of a step by step thought process on how to solve a problem like this. It all seems a bit clearer now :)- clumsy9irl

Graduate Lagrangian Method- 1st form? Zwangskraefte?
Lagrangian Method-- 1st form? Zwangskraefte? Mechanics will be the death of me. For some reason, I can do E&M, and particle stuff, but give me a pendulum, and I'm dumbfounded. THat said, I'm working on some problems using Lagrangians, and the only book I have available to me is Goldstein...- clumsy9irl

Graduate Scattering-Transmission-Reflection in box potential? Help. Please. Please.
I'm trying to analyze the reflection of a plane wave of energy E on the box potential where v(x)= 0 for x<-a -Vnaught for -a<x<0 infinity for 0<x and I'm trying to solve the schroedinger eqn. through: Phi(x) = e^ikx + r(k)*e^-ikx in...- clumsy9irl

Graduate Spherical pendulum, linear approximation?
Hello there. I'm currently dead beat on this problem, maybe because I'm not sure I quite understand what it's asking (I'm taking my upper level mechanics course in germany, and I don't have any books, and it's the second week, and I'm up at 4am with 2 problem sets due tomorrow, each half done...- clumsy9irl
