Graduate What Function Types and Inverses Can Exist Between Different Cardinalities?
Yes the Euclidean metric. I'm not really interested in differentiability types right now -- just the ones listed (surjective, injective, etc...) Maybe this is the wrong folder to ask -- but the question came to me while studying topology so it seemed appropriate. David- ded8381

Graduate What Function Types and Inverses Can Exist Between Different Cardinalities?
Function Types: continuous, surjective, injective, bijective, continuous surjective, continuous injective, continuous bijective. Then all of the above -- with each possible type of inverse? What is possible with F:X-->Y where X, Y can be [0,1], (0,1), [0,1), Q, R, N? I certainly don't...- ded8381

Hours per Week as Math Ph.D. Student
Thanks -- I'm figuring I have about 56 hours a week -- if I spend 16 hours for my TA duties, that leaves about 40 for classes and studying. I'm really just trying to count the cost before I jump in because I have wife and kids. Some weeks will probably require more; but that's made up in the...- ded8381

Hours per Week as Math Ph.D. Student
Hi, I asked a question about a week ago -- and didn't receive a response, so I'm trying a perhaps easier question. :) About hour many hours per week should one expect to spend earning a Ph.D. in Mathematics? Thanks, David- ded8381

Math Ph.D. Programs (Looking for a Good Fit)
Thanks, I hadn't thought of that. That will be very helpful. Maybe I'll also include the details in my personal statement. Now, I just need to know what kinds of schools may accept me. David- ded8381

Math Ph.D. Programs (Looking for a Good Fit)
Hi, I am applying to graduate schools this fall, and I could really use some guidance in finding a program that would be a good fit. The way I see it, there are two things I must consider: Applying to programs that may accept me, and applying to programs I would want to attend. :) I attended...- ded8381

C/C++ Learn Programming Languages for Free: C, C++, Visual Basic
Comparitive Languages I have wife/son/job -- so adding a class beyond what is already required is much more difficult than picking up a book and learning it on my own. I will look into the different language paradigms as many of you have suggested, thank you. From what I understand...- ded8381

How does Computer programming change?
Knowing it's not about the degree, but what you can do, is very helpful. Thank you. What should I be doing for the next four years to make sure I am a good software engineer? I have a lot of flexibility in adding classes to the required ones.- ded8381

How does Computer programming change?
Also, according to occupational handbook software engineers make a lot more than programmers. Do you start out as programmer and then become a software engineer? Or do you just focus on different things in school. Thanks again.- ded8381

How does Computer programming change?
I love computer programming. At least the kind I've done so far. I can stay up all night trying to figure out the solution, because I enjoy it; it's not work. What scares me, is wondering if that love will carry forward to large scale projects, where I am just one of a hundred programmers...- ded8381
