I Shaky model in least squares fit
A case of data in search of a model, it seems. You can apply the same data to different models, and see how that changes the fit. For example, you can fix one coefficient at a time, and re-estimate the remaining parameters.- EnumaElish

Will Solar Power Outshine Oil in the Near Future?
If subsidies to "too big to fail" bankrupt firms are somehow justified, subsidies to renewables are only more so. IMO subsidies must reflect the capitalized present value of delayed extraction of nonrenewables, including (i) their potential future use value, (ii) preserved option value that...- EnumaElish

That's the premise, "in a seashell." I am not going to attempt to justify it.- EnumaElish

How would Cherenkov radiation play into GR, the dolphins' version?
If dolphins thought the universe was just a really big ocean, and if they had come up with the theory of general relativity, how would the fact that certain particles radiate faster than light through water shape their version of the theory? Would it be essentially the same with the human...- EnumaElish

One day the clairvoyant sees a tumble. You offer $20 but nobody's selling. You sell short like...- EnumaElish

What is the fixed cost vs. variable cost breakdown for a nuclear power plant?
I am trying to understand the fixed cost of a nuclear power plant relative to variable cost. By fixed cost I mean "cost that does not vary with the amount of the power outputted over a given time period." By variable cost I mean "cost items that vary with the amount of the power outputted...- EnumaElish

Ask Einstein: What Would You Like to Know?
Follow up, "which fast spaceship"? Or, "gravity well, where"? Depending on the context. More seriously, how did you deal with the initial rejection of, or indifference toward your theories?- EnumaElish
