Synchronized clocks in two moving reference frames
Homework Statement My professor gave us a werid question which is as follows In the laboratory frame, two clocks are synchronized and measure two light sources at the same time situated at 3 years in time axis and 3 light years and 2 light years in x-axis >At what velocity is the frame ##S'##...- Faiq

How Does Gauss' Law Apply to an Insulated Cylindrical Shell and Rod System?
Homework Statement Question ==== An infinitely long insulating cylindrical rod with a positive charge ##\lambda## per unit length and of radius ##R_1## is surrounded by a thin conducting cylindrical shell (which is also infinitely long) with a charge per unit length of ##-2\lambda## and radius...- Faiq

Thermodynamics, isothermal irreversible
Homework Statement Can you please show how to solve this question (I am not asking it for homework. I am asking because it would help me understand better). Determine the entropy change in sys, surr, uni, when a sample of helium has of mass M grams at 298K and 1 bar doubles its volume in...- Faiq

What is the final velocity of a sail after being hit by photons from a star?
##\frac{E}{c}+Mv_i=-p_p+Mv_f## ##E+0.5mv_i^2=0.5mv_f^2+p_pc## Solving both of them got me the equation that I mentioned above- Faiq

What is the final velocity of a sail after being hit by photons from a star?
I am getting an equation like ##4E+M(v_i^2-v_f^2)=2Mc(v_f-v_i)## Not sure what to do now since I have to figure out ##v_i## in terms of remaining terms. (E is total photon energy emitted from star)- Faiq

What is the final velocity of a sail after being hit by photons from a star?
I am in my early university classes and have only covered conservation of momentum and energy. Do you think I have to account for the things you mentioned? Btw the sail is not initally at rest. What should I do to account for that?- Faiq

What is the final velocity of a sail after being hit by photons from a star?
Homework Statement The luminosity of the star is defined as ##\phi = L/4\pi r^2## The photons from the star hits the sail of mass ##M## and cross sectional area ##A##. What's the final velocity of the sail after getting hit by photons for a small time t? Assume the collision is elastic and the...- Faiq

I Use of irrational numbers for coordinate system
Why should a person prefer irrational coordinate system over rational? My friend stated that its because most lines such as ##y=e## cannot be plotted on a rational grid system. But that cannot be true since ##e## does have a rational number summation ##2+1/10+7/100...## which can be utilised to...- Faiq
