High School Why Can't We Compress Water but Can Compress Gas?
Yes, but what is between the gas molecules and for that matter the liquid ones? Are you saying that there is a vacuum and they only partially pack down?- Impulse2

High School Why Can't We Compress Water but Can Compress Gas?
Excuse my ignorence here but as I understand you cannot compress water. Why not, is there not some space between any molecules, particularly following heating, that would allow compression? Assuming there isn`t then how is it we can compress a pure gas. Is the situation not the same?- Impulse2

Undergrad How Does Uranium-Lead Dating Explain Age Differences in Rock Layers?
I was looking at a program referring to dating the life of the Earth and I`m puzzled on a bit that I`m sure must be obvious to geologists. The dating was based on the ratio of lead that was present in combination with uranium. Lead being the final element after the uranium decay. It was...- Impulse2

High temperature and pressure steam is used in turbines
I did thermodynamics I and II 50 yrs. ago so help me out here. I note that high temperature and pressure steam is used in turbines and presumably the higher, the better the efficiency. My question is, is the temperature doing anything or is it only necessary to produce the high steam pressure...- Impulse2

Graduate Entanglement: Can We Logically Say a Body is in All Possible States?
Look I know I`m a long way from comprehending "entanglement" but could someone help me a bit here. How can we logically say a body is in all possible states until we observe it. Don`t we have to observe it to come to that conclusion? And why can`t Schrödinger`s cat be long dead before we open up...- Impulse2

High School Wieght of discharged electronic capacitor or battery
Yes of course, thanks for that. I was thinking in the line of loss of electrons in capacitor and hence weight loss. I guess it follows from E=MC^2 that a wound up spring would theoretically weigh more also.- Impulse2

Am I right in assuming that an electronic capacitor and a battery will weigh less when discharged?- Impulse2
