Graduate How is radiation distributed in this experimental setup
http://imgur.com/a/8B1EV http://imgur.com/a/8B1EV http://imgur.com/a/8B1EV As shown, an X-ray tube (source) is striking a fluorescent plate. The source has a large angle (100+) that the rays are emitted. How is radiation distributed (spatially and energetically) in this set up? Does this...- MPKU

Checking if Momentum Operator is Hermitian - Integration
Homework Statement I'm checking to see if the momentum operator is Hermitian. Griffiths has the solution worked out, I'm just not following the integration by parts. Homework Equations int(u dv) = uv - int(v du) The Attempt at a Solution I've attached an image of my work. It seems there...- MPKU

Is my whole physics career a joke?
Throughout my undergrad career I relied on help from others, the internet, and the teachers allowing us to use equation sheets during examinations. I received all A's in my upper level physics classes, and B's in the introduction classes (which I used Yahoo answers for almost every homework...- MPKU

Classical Mech - Newtons 2nd. Quad Air Resistance
I don't think so. Should I just rewrite it as: dt = -(gsin θ -(c/m)v^2)^-1 dv and integrate?- MPKU

Classical Mech - Newtons 2nd. Quad Air Resistance
Homework Statement A puck of mass m is kicked up an incline (angle θ) with initial speed vo. Friction is not present, but air resistance has a magnitude of f(v) = cv2. Solve Newtons second law for the pucks velocity as a function of t on the upward journey. How long does the journey last...- MPKU

Schools The summer between graduation and graduate school - Preparation?
I'm just reaching out to fellow graduate students who have already been through this. I'm about one month out from starting classes for physics phD program. Here are my concerns/questions: There is a preliminary exam; if students do not reach a certain percentage they will recommend (and may...- MPKU

Schools Retracting Acceptance Offer to Graduate School - Consequences?
I just wasn't sure if there were any legal ramifications or if any thing PHYSICALLY prevents me from doing this. I know that the applications for these institutions are all linked from a common provider/site/host (not sure what you would call it).- MPKU

Schools Retracting Acceptance Offer to Graduate School - Consequences?
Sorry for the confusion. The problem is they are making the offer (possible offer) tomorrow, on the 16th. Not that I want to be inconsiderate, but if the school is a better match, then I would find it hard to turn down that offer.- MPKU

Schools Retracting Acceptance Offer to Graduate School - Consequences?
I applied to universities X and Y. University X got back to me quickly and I visited and was relatively pleased with my visit. Recently I accepted this offer at X University, since University Y said I was wait listed. University Y says that they will have a couple of positions open, and they...- MPKU

Statement of Purpose Critique v2.0
This is the feedback I keep getting. I will probably take it back, but it says on the departments webpage that graduate students will spend a good deal of time teaching so I wanted to include ho my experience would help. P.S. It it quite clear I need to change 'women', I meant holding...- MPKU

Statement of Purpose Critique v2.0
Here is my second draft, a decent improve from first. I really do not like my first and last paragraphs, they need some big-time help. Thanks. Also, I think it's questionable putting in the italicized sentence. Let me know what you think. Earning a PhD in physics would allow me to continue...- MPKU
