Converting a Lead Acid Battery to Alkaline
Well actually, I was most interested in the fact that they claim these batteries can be cycled more deeply than conventional lead acid. Just wondering if there was a scientific explanation and why everyone shouldn't convert their lead acids.- nobb123

Converting a Lead Acid Battery to Alkaline
I came across this interesting article to convert a standard lead acid battery into alkaline: http://blog.hasslberger.com/2007/01/how_to_convert_a_lead_acid_bat.html Seems very promising. Not only does the capacity increase slightly, but the battery also withstands deep discharges much...- nobb123

Affect of -40C temperatures on a LCD display
The LCD screen is 7 inches and mounted in the dash. I think you are mistaken and thought this was for a motorhome or something. Besides...I don't think they make 7 inch plasma displays, but good idea though.- nobb123

Affect of -40C temperatures on a LCD display
The screen is used in a car, so I will be looking at it. I tried looking for schematics to maybe try to build a device which would turn on the heater when temperatures are below a certain temperature and turn it off after the set temperature is reached...but couldn't find any. Anyone have...- nobb123

Affect of -40C temperatures on a LCD display
Well...in my current monitor I did use a bunch of resistors (25 watts), but that is untested and I will have to wait until the winter. My current fold up monitor is a single DIN (the size of a standard car radio) but I don't know how efficient 25 watts worth of heaters will be at heating up that...- nobb123

Affect of -40C temperatures on a LCD display
Hey. I have a carpc and I am looking to get a new LCD screen because my current one does not operate in -40C temperatures. I was hoping someone more technical than me might be able to answer some questions I have on LCD screens and operating them in low temperatures. I am interested in this...- nobb123

Applying for Summer Engineering Jobs at Big Companies
Hi. I just finished my first year of engineering and I am going into chemical engineering. This summer, I must have applied at atleast 30+ engineering related jobs online at some fairly large companies. I haven't gotten an interview at any of them. Just a few days ago, I was doing lawn...- nobb123

Need ideas for final semester project
A grass trimmer is a pretty simple device. You just need a battery connected to a fast spinning motor. The motor head has a piece of plastic string (I don't know the official name) that spins very fast and trims the grass. To keep it simple, you might want to use a deep cycle lead acid battery...- nobb123

Battery Capacity: 9Ahr 12V Power Supply
If you are going to use this device regularly and want to keep the battery healthy, its best to calculate the theoretical time that the battery can produce a useful output, then divide your number by 2 or 3. Do not exceed this time for regular useage. The reason why is because you are using a...- nobb123

Can you add solar panels to a gas-electric hybrid to improve mileage?
If you are trying to save money, I don't think adding a solar panel is a good idea. Solar panels are pretty expensive. Yes, gas is expensive compared to 50 years ago, but it might actually be years (or never) before you can officially say you have saved money by adding a solar panel to offset...- nobb123

Maintaining PC Fans - All You Need to Know
I don't see the problem with oiling the fans if you know what you are doing. Here is a good tutorial: http://www.dansdata.com/fanmaint.htm Oiling your old fans increases the chance they will last longer, and might actually improve efficiency/lower noise too.- nobb123

Engineering is not what you (they) thought
Wow...this forum is scary to read because I am an engineering student right now. I would like to do a masters. Do you guys think possessing a masters will increase the chance that I can get a job that I enjoy? I am doing a summer job at an electrical company, and to be honest, the engineers...- nobb123

Help me design my carputer to work in the cold (advice on building a heater)
Nope its definitely not a physical hardware failure. I know there is a electronic temperature sensor 100%. This is because the unit will beep when you try to open it in the cold. The front lights also flash until the temperature is warm enough, then it will just be lit steadily. I have...- nobb123

Carpc: Please help me locate the thermocouple on this circuit board
Hi. I have a carpc with a motorized LCD touchscreen monitor (MTSVO-SC). The problem is that I live in Canada and when the temperature is too low, the monitor will refuse to open. It makes a beeping noise and does not open until the temperature is above -5C. I would like to override this...- nobb123
