What causes some materials to have upper and lower yield points?
Hey, Just wondering how to explain the yield point run-off for low carbon steel. Why does LCS have an upper yield point, followed directly by a lower yield point? Thanks, -Spoon- ||spoon||

Is it possible to work fulltime and study full time mechanical engineering
I am going into my 3rd year of Mech Engineering this coming semester. Last semester i was enrolled in uni full-time and employed in 2 separate jobs (casual) near my home. It takes me about 1.5-2 hours to travel to and from uni every day on top of work time. I got High Distinctions in all of my...- ||spoon||

Engineering Offshore Platforms and Mechanical Engineering
Hi, I am currently studying Mechanical Engineering and am really interested in Offshore platforms/Oil rigs etc. What branch of engineering is most commonly associated with this industry? I would have thought structural would be very active but constantly hear that mechanical engineers are...- ||spoon||

Engineering Engineering/Engineering Project Management
Hi, At my university there are a few different ways to earn an engineering degree, I am having a bit of trouble deciding on which might suit me. One way is by completing a 4-year BE in the discipline of your choice. The other way is by completing a 3-year bachelor of science (majoring in...- ||spoon||

The Atmosphere and Earth's Orbit (Probably Easy Q)
Hi, just wondering about a (probably) easy queation. Was learning about the coriolis effect today and how since the atmosphere is not rigidly connected to the Earth it appears to veer off a northerly/southerly course in a direction depending what hemisphere it occurs in... etc. Basically its...- ||spoon||

What Are the Best Popular Engineering Books to Read?
Hi, Was wanting to read a good book on Engineering, not a textbook, just a good read on engineering in general. i.e popular books. Not with any specific discipline in mind, but if anyone does have a discipline specific book that they think is a worthwhile read, would be interested in that...- ||spoon||

How Does Confidence Impact Perceptions of Intelligence and Trust?
Thats a really good quote... got to love Russell. I would agree that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are doubtful (now i am wondering whether these are prerequisite qualities respectively, what do other people think?), and it definitely does have adverse effects on the world...- ||spoon||

Graduate How do you visualise particles?
I know Bohr DID say: "Those who are not shocked when they first come across quantum theory cannot possibly have understood it." But who said what and when is trivial, the main point of my post was that i think the OP only wanted an opinion on whether visulaisng particles in certain ways...- ||spoon||

Graduate How do you visualise particles?
I don't think the OP was asking whether particles ARE waves or classical particles. I think the OP simply wished to know, when you think about particles whilst problem solving does it help at all to THINK of them as a wave or a classical particle or something else all together? The OP was not...- ||spoon||
